About the Artist/Ensemble
BJ Griffin is a dynamic singing cellist known for blending classical, pop, soul, and jazz into a vibrant, genre-crossing sound. Born in Detroit near Hitsville U.S.A. and raised in Virginia Beach, he began performing internationally at a young age through the Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra. He later triple-majored in music education, cello performance, and music industry at James Madison University, where he also launched his vocal career with the award-winning a cappella group Exit 245.
After college, BJ moved to New York City as a freelance cellist and later joined the faculty at Interlochen Arts Camp, where he debuted his first work as a singing cellist. Since then, he has become a pioneer in performing while singing and playing electric cello simultaneously, captivating audiences with a sound that is both innovative and deeply soulful.
In 2013, he formed BJ Griffin and the Galaxy Groove, sharing stages with renowned artists including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Smash Mouth, Sir Sly, Andy Grammer, Lionel Richie, and Erykah Badu. His performances have appeared at major events such as The NAMM Show and the Voll Damm International Jazz Festival in Barcelona.
BJ gained national attention on Season 18 of America’s Got Talent with his acclaimed rendition of “Let’s Stay Together.” He continues to expand his artistic impact as CEO of Big Juicy Entertainment and co-founder of Galaxy Music, supporting emerging artists and developing creative performance experiences. Whether performing solo or with his full band, BJ delivers an electrifying, heartfelt show that bridges genres and uplifts audiences.
Concert/Performance Description
BJ Griffin offers a wide range of performance experiences built around his signature blend of electric cello and soulful vocals. His solo performances showcase looping, improvisation, and genre-blending arrangements that transform the cello into a full-range rhythmic and melodic engine. Duo, trio, and four-piece formats build on that foundation with dynamic instrumental layers, harmonies, and grooves that create a lush, contemporary sound.
For larger events, BJ’s full band delivers a high-energy fusion of pop, soul, Motown, jazz, and modern hits. Whether performing his original music or reimagining classics, the ensemble creates an immersive live experience that connects with audiences of all ages.
Concerts can be fully acoustic, fully amplified, or hybrid depending on the venue. BJ regularly performs at festivals, concert halls, universities, corporate events, and large-scale community programs. His versatility allows him to move seamlessly from intimate listening-room sets to high-impact main-stage shows.
Performance options can include looping demonstrations, storytelling, interactive audience moments, and custom arrangements tailored for specific themes or events. Technical Requirements
Basic sound system required for vocals and electric cello, including one vocal mic, one instrument DI, and two stage monitors. For band performances, input list and stage plot will be provided upon booking. Adequate power supply and performance space required. Lighting preferred but not required. Acoustic sets available upon request.

BJ offers a wide range of educational experiences for K–12, universities, community programs, and emerging artists. Music-focused sessions include string performance, vocal technique, ensemble coaching, improvisation, looping technology, songwriting, and the artistry of singing while playing the cello. He also offers music-business coaching that covers branding, career strategy, content development, artist wellness, and navigating today’s industry.
As a certified sound-healing practitioner, BJ leads workshops using frequency, breath, and mindfulness to support creativity, mental health, and emotional regulation. Residencies can include master classes, sectionals, collaborative performances, and interdisciplinary wellness programming. All offerings are adaptable to age, skill level, and institutional goals.
