About the Artist/Ensemble

Charlottesville Ballet’s mission is to elevate the art of dance through wellness, performance, education, and community outreach. Co-Founders Sara Clayborne and Emily Hartka have been committed to promoting dancer health and wellness since 2007; the professional company has no rigid physical aesthetic for its dancers and all body types are celebrated. The company includes dancers hailing from around the United States and abroad, and the Ballet presents innovative performances and programming across Central Virginia.

Concert/Performance Description

Charlottesville Ballet continues to win praise for its accessible and vibrant repertory that includes classical children’s story ballets and newly commissioned contemporary works. Charlottesville Ballet is excited to work with presenters throughout the Commonwealth to bring its programming to new and varied audiences.

Technical Requirements

Permanent stage no smaller than 30’ wide x 20’ deep (not including the wings) for repertory performances. Story ballet requirements vary by production; please inquire.

Educational Programs

“Class with Clara” is an interactive class on stage designed for children ages 3-8. Children can experience the magic of The Nutcracker by taking a ballet class with Clara and her friends. Perfect for boys and girls ages 3-8, participants learn introductory ballet steps, French terminology, and have photo opportunities with the Charlottesville Ballet dancers. “Class with Clara” can be held in conjunction with The Nutcracker or separately as an outreach event.

Charlottesville Ballet’s “Fairy Tale Tea Party” is produced in conjunction with Emily Hartka’s A Fairy Tale Gathering, but can also be produced on its own. Children meet the ballerinas, learn introductory ballet steps and a short “Tea Pot Dance,” make tea-time crafts, and take photos with their favorite fairy tale characters.

Charlottesville Ballet can also perform lecture-demonstration versions of all its full-length performance productions. Please inquire.

Fees

Charlottesville Ballet’s fees for half and full-length story ballets vary due to subsidies; please inquire.
