After Jack

After Jack | Hot Folk

About the Artist/Ensemble

After Jack is a musical celebration or togetherness.  Named 2014 Americana Vocal Group of the Year by the Appalachian Cultural Music Association, the trio couples a modern sensibility with distinctly old-time energy to seamlessly blend bluegrass, gospel and folk elements.  Combine your most beloved musical memories with a foot stomping string band and top it off with harmonies that spring straight from the soul of the mountains, and you’ve got After Jack.

Concert/Performance Description

A blend of original songwriting inspired by the music of Appalachia and unique arrangements of traditional and folk music.  The group’s style is largely centered around their signature vocal harmonies, and the three members play an assortment of traditional instruments to compliment the sound.  Audiences can expect to hear elements of old-time, bluegrass, county and other folk styles in every performance. After Jack’s mission is to bridge the gap between old and new.

Educational Programs

A more educational version of an After Jack show, this performance includes a combination of traditional music, with an emphasis on ballads, and story theatre. The group performs their own dramatizations of traditional Jack tales and other folk tales, often retold to highlight strong female protagonists.  Although the content of this performance is often tailored to suit a school-age audience, the program is also enjoyable and educational for a variety of settings and age groups.

For those who would like a more immersive experience in the oral traditions of music and storytelling in Appalachia, custom workshops on traditional music and singing, story writing, storytelling and creative drama are available.  These are entirely customizable to suit any audience.
