Bio Ritmo | Salsa

About the Artist/Ensemble

Based out of Richmond, VA since 1991, Bio Ritmo is recognized around the world as one of the most intriguing and influential Salsa bands of the last three decades. Their raw, original sound is rooted in the classic “salsa dura” or “hard salsa” genre that was made popular in the dance clubs of New York City during the 1970’s.

The ten-piece powerhouse performs original music and features lead singer, Puerto Rican native, Rei Alvarez who is backed by full Latin rhythm section (congas, timbales, bongo) piano, electric bass, two trumpets, trombone and tenor sax.

Concert/Performance Description

Bio Ritmo has toured across North America, Puerto Rico, Europe and The Republic of Georgia, performing at major music festivals and concert halls. They have been featured in various print magazines, blogs, radio programs and podcast including Brooklyn’s Wax Poetics Magazine and NPR’s Tiny Desk. Through the years they have self-released numerous albums and worked with a variety of record labels including the UK’s World Music Network and Spain’s Vampisoul Records.
