About the Artist/Ensemble
Plunky & Oneness is an enduring and versatile funk, jazz, Afro-fusion group. Led by saxophonist J. Plunky Branch, the group is a unique combination of exotic soulful grooves, sax, vocals, African percussion, and electronics. Plunky & Oneness has performed at numerous festivals in the U.S., Africa, and Europe. They have opened concerts for some of the biggest names in music, including: Patti LaBelle, B. B. King, Ray Charles, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and Sun Ra.
Concert/Performance Description
Concerts feature Plunky and his group performing the entire spectrum of black music, incorporating original compositions, jazz standards, popular songs, vocals, sounds, and lights to create an exciting musical experience. Smaller ensembles, including the J. Plunky Branch Quartet, are also available for specialized programs.
Technical Requirements
Stage area; sound and lighting systems for concert programs; video projection (for lecture and film presentations).
Educational Programs
Workshops and Lectures combine performances and lectures on various aspects of African-American music, from traditional African chants through blues, jazz, and various pop music forms.
Fees
- Concert: $2,500 – $4,000
- Concert/Lecture: $1,000 – $2,500
Presenters must provide stage, sound system, and overnight accommodations. Special rates are available for block-bookings, multiple dates, back-to-back school assemblies, etc.
