Project Locrea | World Folk Fusion

About the Artist/Ensemble

Project Locrea is a world music fusion ensemble created by flutist Yana Nikol, dedicated to creating and performing original compositions and contemporary arrangements inspired by the folk music of different countries. Combining sound and instrumentation of world folk traditions with classical, jazz and contemporary music conventions, the project’s focus is to bring a better understanding and deeper connection between cultures.

Since its birth the ensemble has gained the love and appreciation of audiences at a regional and international level and has contributed to the education of young musicians by sharing with them the values of creating music. Project Locrea has toured internationally in China, and throughout the region at such venues as Blues Alley, Atlas Performing Arts Center, Creative Cauldron, Levine School of Music, Havre De Grace Opera House.

Project Locrea will celebrate the release of their debut album, fresh out of the studio with the AMP by Strathmore CD release concert in December 2021. The band includes graduates of the George Mason University Music Program, the Royal Academy of Music in London and China Conservatory of Music. Three members of the ensemble were selected to participate in Strathmore’s prestigious Artist in Residence program.
