Stephanie Nakasian is an exciting, well-seasoned vocalist and master of innovative jazz improvisation. She is completely authentic and has a fresh and vibrant sound. Known as one of the world’s leading jazz vocalists, Stephanie captures the hearts of audiences with her extensive repertoire, which extends from Jazz to Broadway, Cabaret to Pop. Known for creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and excitement, Stephanie delights audiences as she transports them to another place and time through music and connected stories.
A recording and touring artist with over forty years of experience performing in the USA, Europe, Japan, the Caribbean, Russia, and on cruise lines, Stephanie has shared the stage with many iconic performers. Concert appearances as a featured artist include performances with Urbie Green, Pat Metheny, Bobby McFerrin, Milt Hinton, Clark Terry, J.R. Monterose, Joe Temperly, Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, Sheila Jordan, Bob Dorough, Valery Ponomarev, Diana Krall, Philly Joe Jones, Roy Haynes, and Annie Ross, to name a few.
She is a prolific recording artist with 15 celebrated albums, including her acclaimed “Show Me the Way” and unique tribute to Billie Holiday “Billie Remembered” which was featured on NPR’s “Fresh Air” with Terry Gross.
A teacher of non-classical music at the University of Virginia (30 years and currently ) William and Mary (25 years), and Virginia Commonwealth University (10 years), Stephanie additionally teaches private singing lessons, is a featured Master Class educator at JazzVoice.com and is the author of “Your Tip Jar” an online educational series for singers. Stephanie is the author of three books on jazz, singing technique, and stories of singers’ journeys and is a welcomed presenter at state and national music education conferences including MENC, IAJE, JEN, JAZZ VOICE SUMMIT, and Classical Singer conference.

Whether performing as a duo, in an ensemble, or with a Big Band, Stephanie’s extensive repertoire consists of the Great American Songbook, Jazz Classics, Broadway, and Pop. Concert/Lecture/Workshops
Stephanie Nakasian offers an extensive repertoire of educational concerts on jazz and themed programs, as well as a wide variety of eclectic music genres and styles. Visual slide presentation options are available.
Masterclasses, and “Your Tip Jar” vocal education series, lectures, and workshops include but are not limited to improvisation, vocals, jazz history, jazz phrasing, and rhythm. Nakasian’s choral workshops help teachers and students with jazz rhythm, syncopation, phrasing, breathing, and improvisation. No vocal experience is necessary, as Stephanie shows students how to bring out their best voice.
