About the Artist/Ensemble
Trio Niche was formed by seasoned baroque musicians (of the Wren Masters, Colonial Williamsburg’s Governor’s Musick, and others) to bring a historical sensibility to repertoire from the turn of the nineteenth century. The ensemble features a fortepiano that is a modern replica of an 1805 Walther instrument built by Paul McNulte. The violin and cello date to the nineteenth century and are played with reproduction “transitional” classical bows.
Concert/Performance Description
The name “Trio Niche” speaks to the ensemble’s specialized focus on a narrow slice of classical music, from about 1780 to 1820. This niche within the history of Western art music contributed enormously to the forms and styles of compositions to come for the next two centuries. We bring to life the sounds of the salons of Jane Austen’s Bath and Thomas Jefferson’s White House, featuring music by composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. Our audiences are introduced to the sound of an early piano, as Mozart himself would have heard it.
Technical Requirements
We bring the fortepiano with us but do have special needs of the venues to ensure ease of moving the piano into the space. ADA accessible venues generally meet our needs.
Educational Programs
We are happy to offer workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and/or masterclasses at educational venues such as colleges and universities. Programs of no more than 50 minutes offered on the same day as a booked concert we will offer gratis. Fees for longer programs or programs to be held on a day separate from a concert are negotiable. We are all educators with a strong belief in the importance of music education and therefore wish to make such programs accessible.
Fees
We can offer concerts of a tailored length. Typically, our programs are 60 to 90 minutes in duration, but we can customize a shorter program (e.g., 45 minutes), or a longer program, if desired. Each of our concerts offers a variety of repertoire representing the Classical era and featuring the beautiful 1805 reproduction fortepiano we travel with. Fee: $1,200-$1,500.
