Meet Your Commissioner
How have the arts impacted you?
The arts have helped me reflect, express myself, and see the world with a broader perspective. They ground me during stressful times, inspire creativity, and help me appreciate the stories and experiences of others.
How have you seen the arts impact Virginians?
I’ve seen the arts bring Virginians together, strengthen communities, and give people a voice. From local theaters to school programs, the arts inspire creativity, preserve our stories, and create opportunities for people of all ages.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
People are surprised to learn that I love blending creativity with problem-solving. I enjoy taking big ideas and shaping them into something organized, clear, and meaningful.
If you could be a world class artist, what would you be/do?
If I could be a world-class artist, I’d be a painter. I’d create pieces that tell stories, capture emotion, and inspire people to pause and see beauty in overlooked moments. I’d love to paint scenes that feel alive, warm, and meaningful.
If you had to say what your superpower was, what might that be?
I would say my superpower is reading people.
Born and raised in Southwest Virginia, with time spent working throughout the Commonwealth, I’ve been shaped by the people, places, and creative communities that make Virginia unique. My work across the Commonwealth has allowed me to see firsthand how the arts strengthen communities and create meaningful connections. I’ve seen how meaningful arts access can be, especially in rural areas where creativity brings people together. At the VCA, I hope to encourage participation, broaden appreciation, and help strengthen the arts at the community level, where it all truly begins.
