The VCA Adds Five New Artists to Its Prestigious Touring Artist Roster

The Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA) announces the addition of five talented artists/ensembles to the statewide Touring Artist Roster. Hailing from diverse regions of the Commonwealth and representing distinct voices and genres, the new artists include:

These five artists bolster the Roster’s prestigious list of vetted Virginia-based artists and ensembles, bringing it to 65 acts available for booking by any nonprofit Virginia organization. The impact of the arts in Virginia shines through this Roster of performers and its outreach, reaching over 95,000 Virginians in various regions of the Commonwealth in 2022.

“We are delighted to welcome new artists to the Touring Artist Roster from regions across the Commonwealth,” said Dr. Dena Jennings, Commission Board Chair of the Virginia Commission for the Arts.

“This VCA-driven program is unparalleled in allowing Virginians to choose from a variety of excellent artists to add to events and programs.”

About the Program

Performers accepted onto the distinguished Touring Artist Roster represent a wide range of disciplines including music, dance, and theater, and are selected by the VCA on the basis of artistic quality; sound management; and the ability to provide inspiring, entertaining, and educational programs for the citizens of Virginia. They are booked through the VCA’s grant-funded Virginia Tour Program, ensuring that all Virginians have the ability to enjoy high-quality performances.

The Jason Cale Band (Virginia Beach)
A blend of New Orleans funk, blues rock, jazz fusion, and R&B elements is what creates the musical gumbo that is The Jason Cale Band. Reminiscent of the fearless musical offerings of the late 60’s/early 70’s artists all members have a wealth of experience in performing all styles of music from classical, jazz, gospel, blues, R&B, rock, funk, and fusion.

Quentin Walston weaves jazz history and stories behind his own compositions into the concerts, making them an engaging experience for all who attend.

Redd Volkaert Trio/Quartet (Galax)
Redd Volkaert is considered an icon on the Telecaster with numerous guitar models named after him. This Grammy-award-winning artist showcases a diverse mix of country and swing, hot instrumentals, and vocal numbers in the Bakersfield-honky-tonk tradition. In addition to his seamless ability to conjure up a vast array of complex guitar styles, Redd is beloved for his trademark wit and sense of humor.
