About the Artist/Ensemble
Recognized by “Broadway World” in 2016 as offering “some of the best choral singing” in the DC area, the Harmonizers specialize in one of a cappella’s most challenging forms; four-part close harmony. Founded in 1948 as part of what is now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), the chorus has won four international BHS championships and has appeared at prestigious venues including the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. They have a reputation for high-energy performances that move audiences whether singing Broadway, pop standards, patriotic, gospel, or concert hall works. They feature a uniquely American art form with a diverse repertoire and a track record of delighting audiences. The Harmonizers are thrilled to be on the VCA FY 23 Tour Directory and eager to expose more Virginians to their brand of entertainment.
Concert/Performance Description
The Harmonizers can offer up to 90 minutes of entertainment, which can include not only the full chorus but also a 12-person contemporary ensemble and one or more quartets Shorter time periods of 30-45 minutes could be filled by the chorus alone. The Harmonizers expect to tour with around 40 men and are open to performing both a matinee and evening show at one site. Their performances appeal to anyone who enjoys family-friendly choral singing, a cappella harmony, and high energy, Broadway-style staging. If members of local choral groups, including high school or college, are interested in participating in a finale of a well-known song (e.g. God Bless America), the Harmonizers would be happy to oblige. Or if a presenter would like to feature a local chorus on a segment of the show, they are open to that possibility.
Technical Requirements
Professional sound system to include 2-3 stage mics and lavaliers as needed for emcees and soloists. Need 5-6 standard risers for 5 row chorus staging with back rails (floor + 4 steps). Harmonizers have our own sound equipment and risers and can provide everything as needed. Contact them for specifics.
Educational Programs
The Harmonizers are willing to offer master classes/workshops of approximately 60 minutes in length to groups of interested choral singers from the area of the concert including students and educators at the high school and college level. The session would include an overview of the organization along with demonstrating aspects of the Harmonizers unique a cappella and visual performing styles.
